FAQ
Frequently asked questions about Huis Clos
What people ask before opening their first case.
Yes. The lessons, the sixty manor cases, The Heist, The Poisoned Tankard, False Witness, the Case of the Day and Quick Look are free, with no ads and no account.
You read the file, then place each person on the plan: only one per row and per column, never on a table, a plant or a bookcase, and every statement must hold. The culprit is the only person left alone with the victim in a room. Once everyone is placed, you accuse.
Same family: a sudoku on a house plan, with characters and a culprit. Huis Clos adds its 1920s world, a told case file, Inspector Lebrun and its own series.
No. Inspector Lebrun teaches the method as you play, over three lessons: he shows everything, then he explains, then he stays quiet unless you slip. “How it works” stays available from the home screen and the settings.
From a few minutes for a lesson to a good quarter of an hour for the attic. The target time for the magnifier runs from 4 to 15 minutes depending on the case.
The Hint button brings the inspector, in three steps: where to look, the deduction explained, then the square placed. Each step counts as one hint. You can also add crosses and undo as much as you like.
Each case offers three challenges: without hints, first try, on time. Each earns a magnifier, and your best is kept. Solved cases and magnifiers add up to investigation points, from Rookie to Legend of the Yard.
Three series that change the rule: The Heist (cameras and a blind spot), The Poisoned Tankard (stools and rounds of service) and False Witness (a timeline, a liar). They open after ten cases solved at the manor.
Yes, the Case of the Day: the same for everyone, worked out on your device from the date, with a streak and a telegram to share without the culprit's name. The day and streak rely on a signed time; without a network the daily case stays playable but the streak doesn't move.
The inspector's mini-game: the scene is set, a statement drops, true or false before time runs out. Three mistakes and it's over, your record stays.
No. The crime is never shown: a chalk outline, portraits, a plan. The tone is that of an old-fashioned detective novel.
iPhone and iPad, running iOS 17 or later. The app is in English and French.
No. Your cases, times and settings stay on your device, with no iCloud sync of the game. Only your achievements go to Game Center, if you're signed in. For the Case of the Day, the app asks a small LaCobble service for the signed time: the request contains no data about you.
Yes. Every case is built in and the Case of the Day is worked out on the device. Only the streak needs the signed time.
